Nut and Seed Allergy Blood Test

A nut and seed allergy blood test measuring IgE antibodies to 14 foods, including peanut, tree nuts and sesame. It suits people who have reacted after eating nuts or seeds.

What this test is for

This nut and seed allergy blood test measures total IgE and specific IgE antibodies to each of 14 foods. IgE is the antibody linked to allergic reactions. It covers peanut, tree nuts including almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pine nut, pistachio and walnut, and seeds including poppy, pumpkin, sesame and sunflower.

Itching, swelling or a rash after eating nuts or seeds are common reasons to book it. Anyone who has had a severe reaction should keep following their own doctor's advice. You can book it in our Hull clinic, by nurse visit or with a home kit.

Your report shows a level for each nut and seed alongside your total IgE. An allergy blood test shows sensitisation, which is not the same as a confirmed allergy. Results should be read with your history by a clinician before you change your diet.
