Coeliac Disease Screen
A coeliac blood test measuring tTG IgA, DGP IgG and total IgA. It suits people whose symptoms seem linked to gluten, or who have a relative with coeliac disease.
What this test is for
The Coeliac Disease Screen is a coeliac antibody blood test, not a gluten sensitivity test. It measures tissue transglutaminase IgA (tTG IgA) and deamidated gliadin peptide IgG (DGP IgG), antibodies the body can make in response to gluten. Total IgA is included because a low IgA level can make the tTG result read low.
It suits people with ongoing bloating, loose stools or tiredness, and those with a close relative who has coeliac disease. You must keep eating gluten regularly in the weeks before the test, or the result may not be meaningful. There is no blood test for non coeliac gluten sensitivity.
Your report shows each antibody against its reference range. Raised antibodies can prompt a conversation with your GP about next steps. Do not cut out gluten before you have talked it through, as this can affect further tests.
