What this test is for
The Inhalant Allergy Blood Test measures total IgE and specific IgE antibodies to each of 11 allergens. IgE is the antibody type linked to allergic reactions. The allergens are birch, timothy grass and common ragweed pollen, the moulds Alternaria, Aspergillus and Cladosporium, two kinds of house dust mite, and cat, dog and horse dander.
People with sneezing, a blocked nose, itchy eyes or wheeze that seems linked to seasons, pets or damp rooms may find it useful. It also gives you a clearer picture to share with your GP.
Your report shows your total IgE and a level for each allergen. An allergy blood test shows sensitisation, meaning your body makes IgE to something, which is not the same as a confirmed allergy. Results should be read alongside your history by a clinician, who can help plan next steps.
