Food Allergy Blood Test
A food allergy blood test measuring IgE antibodies to nine common foods, including milk, egg, peanut, wheat and fish. It suits people who react after eating certain foods.
What this test is for
The Food Allergy Blood Test measures total IgE and specific IgE antibodies to nine foods. IgE is the antibody linked to allergic reactions. The foods are cow's milk, egg white and egg yolk, peanut, sesame, soya, wheat, cod and kiwi.
People who notice itching, swelling, rashes or stomach upset after eating often choose it. It looks at allergy antibodies, not food intolerance. Samples are taken in our Hull clinic or at a nurse visit.
Your report shows your total IgE and a separate level for each food. An allergy blood test shows sensitisation, which is not the same as a confirmed allergy. Results should be read with your history by a clinician, such as your GP.
