What this test is for
The Thyroid Profile with Reverse T3 measures seven thyroid markers. It has everything in our Thyroid Profile with Antibodies: TSH, free T4, free T3, total T4, and TPO and thyroglobulin antibodies. It adds one marker, reverse T3 (rT3), an inactive form of T3 that the body makes from T4.
It suits people who have been asked for a reverse T3 result by a clinician or practitioner. NICE thyroid guidance (NG145) does not use reverse T3, so for most people the Thyroid Profile with Antibodies is the better fit. Samples are taken in our Hull clinic, by a nurse or with a home kit.
Your report shows each marker against its reference range. Reverse T3 can rise during illness, fasting or stress, so one result is hard to read on its own. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test or a talk with your GP.
