What this test is for
The Thyroid Profile with Antibodies measures six markers: TSH, free T4, free T3 and total T4, plus TPO and thyroglobulin antibodies. Antibodies are proteins made by the immune system, and these two act against parts of the thyroid gland.
It suits people with a family history of thyroid problems, and those whose past results sat near the edge of the range. Compared with our Thyroid Function Test, the step up buys the two antibodies and total T4. You can use a finger prick kit at home or visit our Hull clinic.
Your report shows each marker against its reference range. Antibodies can be raised while hormones sit in range, so they are worth tracking over time. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test or a talk with your GP.
