What this test is for
The Ovarian Reserve Test measures anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), which gives a picture of how many eggs your ovaries hold. It adds FSH, LH and oestradiol, the hormones that guide each cycle. Unlike our Ovarian Reserve Plus Profile, it leaves out prolactin and testosterone.
It is popular with women weighing up when to try for a baby, or thinking about egg freezing. It also suits women curious about their fertility hormones. You can take the sample with a finger prick kit at home, at a nurse visit or in our Hull clinic.
AMH falls with age and says more about egg numbers than egg quality. Each level is shown against its reference range, but none of them can predict whether you will get pregnant. A low or high result is best talked through with your GP or a fertility clinic.
