What this test is for
The Advanced Male Fertility Hormone Blood Test measures the hormones that control testosterone and sperm production. It includes total testosterone, SHBG (a protein that carries testosterone) and free testosterone, worked out from SHBG and albumin. It also measures LH and FSH, the pituitary signals to the testes, and prolactin, which can lower libido when high.
Men and couples planning a pregnancy, men with a lower sex drive or less energy, and anyone wanting a hormone baseline can use it. It sits alongside a semen analysis rather than replacing it, and you can use a finger prick kit at home.
Hormone levels appear in your report beside their reference ranges. Testosterone peaks in the morning, so book an early sample. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test, a look at sleep, weight or training, or a conversation with your GP.
