Oestradiol Blood Test

What this test is for
This oestradiol blood test measures oestradiol, also called E2, the main oestrogen before the menopause. It is made mostly by the ovaries in women, and in smaller amounts in men. Levels rise and fall across the menstrual cycle.
Women with irregular or missed periods, those planning a pregnancy, and people keeping an eye on oestrogen while using hormone medicines often choose it. For testosterone from the same sample, our Oestradiol and Testosterone Blood Test covers both. A finger prick kit is available.
Your result is shown against a reference range that depends on sex and cycle phase. A single result is a snapshot, so note your cycle day when you test. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test at a set point in your cycle or a talk with your GP.
