What this test is for
Our Male Hormone Profile measures ten markers that give a picture of testosterone and the hormones that control it. It covers total and free testosterone, SHBG, the free androgen index and albumin, which together show how much testosterone is available. It also includes LH, FSH, prolactin, oestradiol and DHEA sulphate, a hormone made by the adrenal glands.
Men with low energy, low mood, reduced sex drive or changes in muscle often choose it. It also suits men who train hard, or who want a baseline before changing their lifestyle. You can use a finger prick kit at home or visit our Hull clinic.
Each marker is shown against its reference range, and a morning sample gives the most useful testosterone reading. A result outside the range can lead to a repeat test, changes to sleep, weight or training, or a conversation with your GP.
