Female Hormone Profile
A female hormone blood test covering menstrual cycle hormones, prolactin, testosterone and thyroid function. It suits women with questions about their periods, mood, energy or hair.
What this test is for
The Female Hormone Profile measures nine markers across reproductive and thyroid hormones. It includes FSH, LH, oestradiol and prolactin, plus total testosterone, SHBG and the free androgen index, which estimates how much testosterone is active. TSH and free T4 show how your thyroid is working.
Women with irregular periods, low mood, tiredness, acne or extra hair growth often choose it, since thyroid and androgen levels can play a part. Unlike our Female Hormone Profile Plus, it includes prolactin and thyroid but not progesterone or vitamin D. You can use a finger prick kit at home or visit our Hull clinic.
Each hormone is shown against its reference range. Several change through the cycle, so a sample on day 2 to 5 of your cycle is usual. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test or a talk with your GP.
