Female Hormone and Androgen Profile
A female hormone blood test measuring menstrual cycle hormones alongside androgens such as testosterone and DHEAS. It suits women with irregular periods, acne or extra hair growth.
What this test is for
The Female Hormone and Androgen Profile measures six hormones. FSH, oestradiol and progesterone guide the menstrual cycle and ovulation. It also looks at androgens, the male type hormones women make in small amounts, through total testosterone, SHBG (a protein that carries hormones in the blood) and DHEA sulphate.
Women with irregular periods, acne, thinning scalp hair, extra facial hair or low libido often want to see their androgen levels. Our Female Hormone Profile Plus swaps SHBG and total testosterone for free testosterone, vitamin D and LH. You can test by finger prick at home or in our Hull clinic.
Your report shows each hormone against its reference range. Progesterone rises after ovulation, so it is best measured about seven days before your next period. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test or a talk with your GP.
