What this test is for
The Female Fertility Check measures four hormones that guide ovulation and the menstrual cycle. FSH and LH are signals from the pituitary gland in the brain that tell the ovaries to ripen and release an egg. Oestradiol is the main form of oestrogen, and prolactin can affect ovulation when raised.
Women thinking about a pregnancy, now or later, or with irregular or missing periods often start here. It does not include AMH, which our Female Fertility Hormone Profile adds along with thyroid tests. You can test by finger prick at home or in our Hull clinic.
These hormones change through the cycle, so take your sample on day 2 to 5 of your period if you can. Your report shows each level against its reference range. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test or a talk with your GP.
