Androgen Hormone Profile
An androgen hormone blood test measuring testosterone, its carrier protein, the hormones that control it and DHEA sulphate. It suits men with questions about energy, libido or strength.
What this test is for
The Androgen Hormone Profile looks at the main male sex hormones and what drives them. It measures total testosterone and SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin, which carries testosterone). It adds LH and FSH, the pituitary signals to the testes, and DHEA sulphate, an androgen made by the adrenal glands.
Men with low energy, a lower sex drive or changes in strength or mood often choose it, as do those who train hard and want a baseline. Unlike our Advanced Male Fertility Hormone Blood Test, it adds DHEA sulphate but leaves out prolactin and free testosterone. A finger prick kit is available.
Book an early sample, because testosterone is highest in the morning. Each result sits against its reference range. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test, a look at sleep, alcohol or training, or a talk with your GP.
