What this test is for
This vitamin B12, folate and vitamin D blood test measures three nutrients in one sample. Active B12 is the part of your B12 that cells can take up and use, and folate (vitamin B9) works with it to make red blood cells. Vitamin D supports bones, teeth and muscles.
It suits vegans, vegetarians, people who eat few greens and anyone planning a pregnancy. Compared with our Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D Blood Test, it adds folate and measures active B12. Samples are taken in our Hull clinic, at a nurse visit or with a home blood kit.
Your report shows each vitamin against its reference range. Low B12 and low folate can affect red blood cells in similar ways, so seeing both together helps. A result outside the range can prompt a change to diet, a repeat test, or a talk with your GP.
