Erectile Dysfunction Blood Test

An erectile dysfunction blood test looking at testosterone and related hormones, thyroid, cholesterol, blood sugar and PSA. It suits men noticing changes in erections or sex drive.

What this test is for

The Erectile Dysfunction Blood Test measures 15 markers linked to hormones, blood flow and blood sugar. It includes total and free testosterone, SHBG, the free androgen index and prolactin. It also covers thyroid (TSH and free T4), HbA1c, cholesterol and PSA, a prostate protein.

Erections depend on hormones, blood vessels and nerves, so men with changes in erections or sex drive often start here. It works well alongside a GP visit. You can use a finger prick kit at home or visit our Hull clinic.

Each result is shown against its reference range, and one outside it can prompt a repeat test or a talk with your GP. PSA is a tumour marker, not a cancer screening tool, and infection, exercise, ejaculation or an enlarged prostate can all raise it. The UK National Screening Committee does not recommend PSA testing for all men.
