Liver Function Test
A liver function test measuring eight markers, including the enzymes ALT, AST, ALP and GGT. It suits people who drink alcohol, take regular medicines or want to recheck a result.
What this test is for
This liver function test, often called an LFT, looks at eight markers of how your liver is working. Four are enzymes, ALT, AST, ALP and GGT, which are proteins that can rise when liver cells are under strain. It also measures bilirubin, a yellow pigment the liver clears, and the blood proteins albumin, globulin and total protein.
People who drink alcohol regularly, take long term medicines, or want to recheck an earlier result often choose it. For more from the same sample, our Liver, Kidney and Cholesterol Check adds six cholesterol and three kidney markers. A finger prick kit is available for home sampling.
You will see each result beside its reference range. Liver markers can shift after hard exercise, alcohol or some medicines. A result outside the range often leads to a repeat test, a look at habits, or a conversation with your GP.
