What this test is for
The Kidney Function Profile measures creatinine, a waste product from muscle, and urea, a waste product from protein. It also reports eGFR, an estimate of how well your kidneys filter blood, worked out from your creatinine, age and sex.
You might choose it if you take regular medicines that can affect the kidneys, have raised blood pressure or diabetes and want an extra check between GP reviews, or train hard. You can test by finger prick at home or visit our Hull clinic.
Creatinine, urea and eGFR each appear against a reference range. Muscle mass, a hard workout, a high protein diet, creatine supplements and low fluid intake can all shift these results. A single result outside the range is often repeated, and it can prompt a talk with your GP.
