What this test is for
The Heart Disease Risk Blood Test measures blood fats and inflammation linked to heart health. It covers total, HDL, LDL and non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and your total cholesterol to HDL ratio. It also includes hs-CRP, a sensitive marker of low level inflammation.
If heart problems run in your family, or you have not had your cholesterol checked for a while, this is a useful place to start. You can use a finger prick kit at home or visit our Hull clinic.
Your report shows each marker against its reference range. Your GP can read cholesterol alongside blood pressure, smoking, age and family history, and a result outside the range may prompt changes to diet or activity. hs-CRP can rise after a cold or a hard workout, so a raised level may simply need a repeat test.
