What this test is for
The HbA1c and Glucose Test measures two markers of blood sugar. HbA1c, or glycated haemoglobin, shows your average blood sugar over the past two to three months. Glucose shows the level at the moment your sample is taken.
This is a good fit for adults with a family history of type 2 diabetes, people working on their weight, and anyone who wants more than HbA1c alone. You can give a sample in our Hull clinic, at a nurse visit or with a home kit.
Your report sets both results against their reference ranges. A single glucose reading changes with your last meal, so it does not on its own show whether someone has diabetes, and HbA1c is the usual test for that question. A result outside the range can prompt a repeat test, a look at diet and activity, or a talk with your GP.
