What this test is for
The Cardiovascular Screen is a heart health blood test with eight markers. It measures total, HDL, LDL and non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL as a share of total cholesterol. It adds HbA1c, your average blood sugar over the past two to three months, and hs-CRP, a sensitive marker of inflammation.
It suits adults with a family history of heart problems, people over 40, and anyone making changes to diet, weight or exercise. It goes one step beyond our Heart Disease Risk Blood Test by adding HbA1c. A finger prick kit lets you take the sample at home.
Your report sets each marker against its reference range. Raised cholesterol, blood sugar or inflammation can each prompt a look at food, activity, alcohol or smoking. A result outside the range can also lead to a repeat test or a talk with your GP.
